Data stored on your device

grooph remembers your settings, tempo, saved presets, rhythms and practice results so they are still there the next time you open it. In the browser this data is kept in the local storage of your browser; in the Android app it is kept in a file in the app's private storage. It never leaves your device and is not sent to us. You can delete it by clearing the site data in your browser or by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app.

Microphone

If you turn on the microphone for timing practice, grooph listens to the audio signal to detect when you hit a drum or practice pad. The audio is analysed on your device as it arrives and is neither recorded, stored nor transmitted. The browser or Android asks for your permission before the microphone is used (on Android this is the only permission the app requests), and you can withdraw it at any time in the browser or system settings.

MIDI devices

If you connect a MIDI device, grooph reads its note messages on your device to show your timing. Nothing is stored or transmitted.

Sharing rhythms

When you share a rhythm, grooph creates a link that contains the tempo and the rhythm itself, for example grooph.app/?v=2&bpm=90&r=…. The link contains no personal data. It is passed only to the app or contact you choose, such as a messenger, and opening it simply loads the rhythm in grooph.

Hosting and server logs

The website and web app are hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. (Cloudflare Pages). When you open grooph.app, your browser sends a request to Cloudflare's servers, which necessarily processes your IP address and technical request data such as the time, the requested page and your browser's user agent. Cloudflare uses this data to deliver the site and protect it against attacks and may store it in server logs for a short time. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure and working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Cloudflare may process data in the USA; it is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

While the web app is open, it checks about once an hour whether a new version has been published by loading a small version file from grooph.app. This request is handled like any other page request and sends no data beyond the technical request data above.

The Android app does not connect to our servers. It is distributed through Google Play; Google's privacy policy applies to downloading and updating the app there.

Children

grooph does not collect personal data from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and to object to processing of your personal data, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. Since grooph does not store personal data about you on our side, there is usually nothing for us to access or delete; for any questions, write to the email address above.

Changes

If grooph starts processing data in a new way, this page will be updated first and the date above changed.
